Golf

Tee off at Camiral. Be back at the pool before the beers get warm.

Most golf trips end the same way: a good round, then everyone scatters — separate hotel rooms, a scramble to book a restaurant table for the group, no real time together until the next tee time. Can Sureda is the alternative. Seven bedrooms, sleeps 14, eight minutes from Camiral — the resort hosting the 2031 Ryder Cup. One house. One table. The trip you actually meant to have.

The golf

Camiral, a Quinta do Lago Resort (the club many still know as PGA Catalunya) is about an 8-minute drive away. Its Stadium Course has hosted the Spanish Open three times and is widely ranked Spain's #1 course — and in July 2025, Ryder Cup Europe confirmed it as the host venue for the 2031 Ryder Cup, only Spain's second ever after Valderrama in 1997. Camiral also runs the Tour Course, and welcomes golf societies and group bookings directly.

Camiral isn't the only reason to come. Girona and the Costa Brava make up a genuine golf region, not a one-course detour — Girona Golf Club, Club de Golf Costa Brava, Mas Nou, Golf de Pals, and Empordà Golf are all within roughly 30-50 minutes, several of them established, well-regarded layouts in their own right. A group staying at Can Sureda could play a different course every day of a week-long trip without moving accommodation once.

After the round

This is the part most golf accommodation gets wrong: somewhere to actually be together once the clubs are back in the car. The covered BBQ terrace is built for it — long table, shade, room for the whole group. A well-equipped kitchen means you're not booking restaurant tables for 14 every night, and there's a pool to cool off in before dinner. Clubhouse feeling, minus clubhouse prices.

Getting here

Girona-Costa Brava Airport is about 10km / 10 minutes away, with direct UK routes through the main season (spring–autumn) via Ryanair, Jet2, and Tui. Outside peak season, UK flight options to Girona thin out considerably — worth knowing before you book, not after you land. For trips outside roughly March–October, Barcelona-El Prat is the more reliable gateway: about an hour further to drive, but year-round connectivity. Happy to help a group plan around whichever fits their dates.

Playing golf outside summer

Girona's golf season doesn't end when the beach season does — the region is genuinely mild well into the shoulder months. Sils itself sits slightly inland, so mornings can be a touch cooler than the coast, but for groups happy to trade July's heat for quieter courses and easier tee times, an autumn or winter trip here is a real option, not just an off-season sales pitch. Just plan your flights around the note above.

The practical bit

  • Sleeps up to 14 across 7 bedrooms — built for a group, not a couple's cottage with extra beds
  • Private pool, covered BBQ terrace, free WiFi, parking for multiple cars
  • Pet friendly, if anyone's bringing the dog
